Reflections From Obra Dinn

I realized that I just need patience, which I’m missing. I need to be more patient. Everything can be logically deduced. I just dislike how you need to go all the way to a different place to check out the memory. You need to have patience, which I don’t really have.

I realized I’m also not the best at open world games. They kind of freak me out, and I don’t approach things in the most rational way.

When I don’t understand how things work, it freaks me out, because I usually do.

The fact that I have to think in reverse chronological order also tripped me up. I’m not used to thinking in that kind of reverse way.

The number of triangles — one to three — next to the face indicates the difficulty of deducing that person’s identity. These are fixed by the developer and do not change as you gain information. Identities with only one triangle generally imply that the person’s name is mentioned in dialogue at some point.

I didn’t realize this.

  • I also didn’t have the patience to go through and solve all the first ones first.

  • I should’ve just read the spoiler-free version first!

  • Update 01-09-23 from Civ 6 gameplay: if things go badly in the beginning, I feel like I want to restart. It feels like I’ve already lost the game.

    • At the same time, I want to keep playing to explore how the game works, but this is just so I can play better in the future (using it as a trial round). It’s still driven by competitiveness at heart.
