Book review: How to Argue with a Racist
Instead of doing a review of the whole book (which I unfortunately can’t do, because I didn’t take highlights or notes while I was reading the book), I’m just going to review this Instapaper article (https://www.instapaper.com/read/1312873957).
He writes that scientists’ reluctance “to express views concerning the politics that might emerge from human genetics is a position perhaps worth reconsidering”. After all, he argues, those who misuse science for ideological ends show no such restraint, and embrace modern tech to spread their messages.
Even though there isn’t much hard and fast data that shows that shows conclusively that genes for complex traits like intelligence aren’t stratified along racial lines, he also argues that scientists shouldn’t show such a strong reluctance to argue for something like that. (Given that people who use “science” to prove their racial blames have no such shame).
