2 things Mulan’s dad disagrees with wrt the Instagram posts about the protests 202006011540

  1. Since black people got their lives taken away, they’re justified to loot (I think this is pretty stupid too)
    • I don’t think violence should beget violence
    • Mulan’s dad is super jaded
  2. Looting a store is not the same as killing someone
    • Mulan’s dad response - looting is one step away fro killing
    • People who say stuff like this also have the possibility of going tit for tat in terms of killing as well
    • Her dad also said that conservatives also talk about some whack stuff, but they don’t post it online - what if a black teenager sees this stuff about how many killings have been done against blacks, and he goes and does some riots themselves In some ways, I can understand/relate with Mulan’s dad’s thinking: there are ways in which I also struggle with racist thought 202006020157. While there are definitely insights from my review of How to Argue with a Racist 202006020039 that could be relevant here, I think in general, this is a case of Mulan’s dad being overly logical, and not realizing the human, flawed, shitty side of things that is an unfortunate reality.

As Mulan mentions in 202006042233, seems like that Mulan’s dad understands a lot more than she previously thought, and he understands to a big extent what black people are going through.

Mulan’s dad in general embodies some centrist or non-liberal viewpoints 202006080227 that I definitely want to know more about
