1. Could stress still be a cause of the ulcers?

• Marshall could’ve been stressing himself out worrying about ulcers
• But you can’t really establish causality
  • Need more controls, and need more people (he may have been more susceptible to the bacteria)
• Marshall’s approach was a good way to get attention to what he was working on, but it wasn’t sound reasoning.

2. What additional controls would you like to see?

• If you put the bacterium in mice that are known to be susceptible to ulcers, that would be a positive control
• Drinking salt water would be a negative control
