Fetishization of freedom in America

Freedom is fetishized in America. It’s not only that you have the freedom to do what you want, but that you have the freedom to do whatever you want, no matter the repercussions to anyone else.. An example of this happened with the protests against the coronavirus lockdown. The lockdowns are literally for the good of society, but because people are selfish, they’re complaining about not having freedom to do something that is harmful to other people in society. We don’t have the freedom to drive drunk on a highway, for good reason. Why would we have the freedom to risk sinking society even further into a global pandemic?
